A great question! As you know, a stable electricity supply and a high-speed and stable internet connection are two of our requirements to join and succeed at Microverse.

If your area is prone to power outages or unstable internet service, there are still things you can do to make sure these don't stand in the way of your success at Microverse.

๐Ÿ”Œ If you experience power outages, we recommend you do all of the following:

  • To ensure your computer's power supply is always on, you must acquire either:

    • A small generator

    • An extra battery for your laptop

    • A UPS (uninterruptible power supply)

    • A power bank

  • Get at least one alternative source of internet connection that is not dependent on your electrical grid. For example:

    • A MiFi device or a cellphone and/or

    • A mobile plan that allows hot-spotting from your phone to your computer

If your MiFi or mobile service is usually interrupted when there are power outages, then, unfortunately, you won't be able to succeed in our high-accountability, deadline-driven remote experience.

๐Ÿ“ถ If you have an unstable internet connection, we recommend you do the following:

Get at least one (preferably two) alternative sources of internet connection that are unlikely to fail at the same time as your primary internet connection. For example:

  • A MiFi device or a cellphone and/or

  • A mobile plan that allows hot-spotting from your phone to your computer

If your primary internet connection is a MiFi or mobile hotspot, then you'll need to make sure that your "Plan B" internet sources are not on the same network as your primary connection.

Note that "network" is not the same as "provider." While you may be using a different company for your secondary hotspot option, if it's on the same network as your primary connection, then they're likely to fail at the same time.

If you're able to invest in these backup plans and they enable you to work online for 8-10 uninterrupted hours, we believe you'd be able to succeed in our program.

Whatever solution you come up with, please make sure to test it well before continuing with your application.
