No, you can’t choose your coding partner, because even if you could choose who you will initially work with, that doesn’t mean that you will work with the same person all the time.

Let’s talk about why...

As a Microverse student, you will initially get assigned a coding partner and a support group. Every day, you will have a standup meeting with your support group to set goals for the day, and you will learn with your coding partner by building projects through pair programming.

Even though your support team will most likely be the same during the entire program, your coding partner will probably change. That way, you will have the chance to learn and work with multiple people.

Not only that. Every week, you will also be randomly paired with another Microverse student to have a Coffee & Code session, where you will get to know each other and have fun coding together for an hour.

As you get to the end of the program, you will also do mock interviews with people outside your support group to help you prepare each other for the job interviews.

We believe that learning to collaborate with a diverse group of people will make our students stronger developers, better employees, and, ultimately, more compassionate human beings.

This, by the way, is no different from a real job. Once you start working for a company, you won’t be able to choose who else is in your team, and you will need to learn how to work with all kinds of people and personalities.

However, in the same way that companies select the people they hire, at Microverse, we are also very selective with the students who join us. That means that no matter who your coding partner is, they will be incredibly motivated, driven, and also great collaborators, just like you.
