Part of what makes Microverse so great is our growing community and students and staff who are here to support you on every step of your Microverse journey and beyond. This article explains the different support roles at Microverse and who holds them.

Your Learning & Coding Partners πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ’»

During the program, you will be paired with other students who are at the exact same point in the curriculum as you. We have two kinds of partners: learning partners and coding partners. When you have a learning partner, you learn together and check in daily while working solo on your projects. When you have a coding partner, you will learn together through remote pair programming for about 7 hours a day on project building days.

Every week you either have a learning partner or a coding partner. Your partners will help you stay motivated throughout your work, support you when you get stuck or frustrated and make sure you show up every day. You will change partners many times throughout your time in the program, giving you an opportunity to work with amazing people from all over the world.

Your Standup Team πŸ‘©πŸ»πŸ‘¨πŸ½πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ¦±πŸ‘±πŸΌπŸ§‘πŸ½β€πŸ¦±

Your standup team is your core support group. Think of them as your classmates, a group of 4-6 other students that will be going through the same learning experience that you are at approximately the same time.

You will meet with your standup team twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening (depending on your timezone). In the morning meeting, you will initially give and receive code reviews before starting Mob Programming later in the program. In the evenings you'll all meet again for your 15-minute β€œdaily standup,” where you'll discuss what you achieved that day and seek help for anything you're blocked on.

At the beginning of the program, the composition of your standup team will change frequently to help you expand your Microverse network. However, once you've finished the first module, your team composition will change less frequently so that you can establish stronger relationships with this core support group.

Your Mentor πŸ§‘πŸ½

Your mentor is your champion within Microverse. They will be another student that is more advanced in the program. They will be your motivational coach during the first five weeks in the program and will have weekly calls with you to make sure you are doing well.

Other Students 🌎

We have a very tight-knit community of students here at Microverse. You'll be able to speak to everyone in our community channels in Slack and benefit from having hundreds of like-minded people to whom you can go for help and who will celebrate your achievements.

Code Reviewers πŸ•΅πŸΌ

Code reviewers are Microverse students who will help you become the best software developer you can be! You will mainly interact with them during code reviews as every project you submit will have to pass their checks before you can submit it as complete. Code reviewers help you to make sure you are producing industry-standard code from day one by reviewing your submission and providing feedback.

As well as reviewing the code you write, code reviewers are also here to help you when you are really stuck! Although all developers must master the skill of solving their own questions we know sometimes you need to go to a more experienced developer for help. In these rare cases, you can reach out to a more experienced code reviewer and arrange a time to speak to them. They will always be there to help you with any technical questions you have.

The Student Success Team πŸ¦ΈπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ¦ΈπŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸ¦ΈπŸΌ

The Student Success Team is there to help solve any problems and jump over any hurdles that might prevent you from graduating. As well as organizing everything from your standup teams to your coding partner assignments they are also here to help you with any problems you might face while in the program. Are you having problems with your coding partner? Do you need to request time off? Are you having financial or motivational problems? Student Success is there to help.

Your Career Coach πŸ§šβ€β™‚οΈ

Once you finish our core curriculum, you will get a career coach assigned to you. Career coaches are professionals who will work alongside you to get you ready for the job market and help you find a job that's right for you.
